Our Story
Our adventure with wood began in October 1994 with the establishment of Bapedi Timbers which procured equipment to recover timber from trees that were felled and typically burned in the Harare area. These timbers included gum (eucalyptus), jacaranda and cypress, however, after successful trials with hardwoods, the company was awarded a timber concession in the Gwampa Forest Land in 1996. A licence was granted to harvest Mukwa, Pod Mahogany and a then relatively unknown hardwood, Zambezi Teak.
The Journey
In 2001, after Teak showed encouraging results, Olive Grove was brought to life by the founder and current Managing Director, Jeremy Small. Over the past two decades Olive Grove has sourced and processed Teak from timber concessions in Nkayi, Lupane and Tsholotsho. Today, the company manufactures a wide range of products, primarily using Zambezi Teak, from doors and windows to floors and furniture. Olive Grove is best known for its custom-made furniture and the wide variety of hardwoods we work with, including, Rosewood, Mopane, Camelthorn and Leadwood.
Our Timber
We harvest the majority of our timber ourselves under the supervision of Forestry Commission of Zimbabwe and the local Rural District Council in which we are operating. The timber is transported to our Bulawayo factory where it is milled and treated for woodboring beetles, it is then stacked and either air dried or kiln dried. Once the drying process is complete, we meticulously select the planks, ensuring that each piece is appropriate for its intended use. This approach not only optimizes timber utilization but also aims to minimize waste and reduce our environmental impact.
